THE PLOT:
Buck and Wilma join the Earth ship known as the Searcher. But not to boldly go where no one has gone before. They are looking
for colonies of humans based on humans that might have fled Earth just before nuclear war devastated the planet.
Joined by Doctor Goodfellow and the last surviving Bird humanoid named Hawk. They explore uncharted planets and planets
from ancient charts in the hopes of finding humanity hidden with the stars.
ZEDD'S OPINION:
I loved season one, I was a kid when season 1 aired in 1979 and loved practically every episode. But at the end of season
1 they take it off the air and I guessed it was canceled for some stupid reason. Then in 1981 it returns and where on board
this ship searching for humans in deep space. Why? I hate what they use to do on these older shows, the ratings slip half
a point or so. Then they totally re-write without even a bridge story telling you how this came to be. Then the rating don't
just slip, it totally goes right down the bloody toilet which results in total cancellation. Maybe they should have left well
enough alone. But in this season's defense, I liked Crichton, I like Hawk. I didn't like they removed Mel Blanc as the voice
of TWIKI, but they got him back. So that's cool. Also, I didn't like they removed the name of Buck's ship in the beginning
credits. It was Ranger III, what's wrong with that name. All and all I wish they didn't do this to Buck, but as for the season
two, 7 STARS OUT OF 10.
VOLTRON'S OPINION:
I agree, all though this is one of my favorite TV shows of the time period. I must confess my slight disappointment with
how season two started. I must admit a segway story would have worked. But I think how the series went I think I still would
have disappointed. Hawk is a cool character but I think they could have done more with him. Plus in an episode where they
returned to Earth what happened to Doctor Huer? Did he die? What? 6 STARS
ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):
+ NEW CHARACTERS (We both liked the new characters added to the show.)
+ EFFECTS (The effects is just as good as season 1.)
+ CREATURES (We liked that there are more monsters this season.)
+ HAWK (Hawk is the best of the new characters, just wish they did more with him.)
ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):
- RETOOLING (I don't think TV execs should have say on what a show does or doesn't do. Today, a show like Buck would find
a new home on any number of other channels.)
- TWIKI'S VOICE AND RANGER III (Why did they change TWIKI's voice, Just glad they returned MEL BLANC, even if they stopped
giving him credit. And why not mention Ranger III? It's a ship, not a human.)
- NO BRIDGE (I think it would have been nice to have a bridge episode or movie or something.)
...AND FINALLY...
- OLD CHARACTERS (What about the old characters.)
