THE PLOT:

John Palmer takes his family to one last exotic local when he's promised a large sum of money to take a group of "extreme" sportsmen to a old abandoned mine. But what they are really after is a long lost emerald mine that was discovered by the Grandfather of the leader of the crooks named Vincent.

But what Vincent fails to mention is that the mine is guarded by huge prehistoric flesh-eating beetles and when the mine experiences a cave in they are trapped with the over sized carnivore crickets and they may never see the sun again.

ZEDD'S OPINION:

Another fairly decent monster movie from the Sci-Fi Channel. The story is basic but it works and there was a trend of trapped by a cave with a monster theme movies as of late, but so far this is one of the best. The effects were good, not perfect it had some flaws hear and there. There were some story issues like since the emeralds were legal salvage since the mine hasn't been owned in sixty years or so then why bring guns and threats? But that's a minor complaint, the cast does a great job and the story works and so I give this movie 8 STARS.

VOLTRON'S OPINION:

I concur on Zedd's review of the movie, the Sci-Fi channel has produced allot of crap in the last ten years or so. Including the newer Battlestar Galactica and the New Flash Gordon. But this is not in those ranks. The cast does a great job, the mine is creepy without losing anything. This is a good movie worthy of the classic Sci-Fi channel. 8 STARS as well.

ON THE POSITIVE SIDE (+ HITS):

+ GREAT EFFECTS (Not perfect but still great.)
+ CREATURE EFFECTS (The prehistoric beetles were cool.)
+ CAST (The cast does a great job with the story.)
+ STORY (The story works.)
+ CLIMAX (Without giving it away I say it's worth waiting for.)

ON THE NEGATIVE SIDE (- MISSES):

- MINOR MATTING ISSUES (Some of the beetles were lighter then they should be in some of the scenes.)
- CHARACTER ISSUES (They were searching for a lost emerald mine not robbing the Louvre. Why bring guns and plans of murder?)

...AND FINALLY...

- FAN BASED (If you aren't a fan of giant insects then this isn't the movie for you.)
